Scarier than anything else you’ll watch this Halloween.
From the description: With the September 11th attacks, Neo-Conservatives in the Bush Administration use the created concept of an organisation to justify another crusade against a new evil enemy, leading to the launch of the War on Terrorism. After the invasion of Afghanistan fails to uproot the alleged terrorist network, the Neo-Conservatives focus inwards, searching unsuccessfully for terrorists in America.
They then extend the “war on terror” to a war against general perceived evils and invade Iraq in 2003. The ideas and tactics also spread to the United Kingdom where Tony Blair uses the threat of terrorism to give him a new moral authority.
The repercussions of the Neo-Conservative strategy are also explored with an investigation of indefinitely-detained terrorist suspects in Guantanamo Bay, many allegedly taken on the word of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance without actual investigation on the part of the United States military, and other forms of “pre-emption” against non-existent and unlikely threats made simply on the grounds that the parties involved could later become a threat.
A gun-toting robber ended up returning what he stole after learning his victim was staying at a homeless shelter, police said.
York City Police said Larry A. Sanderson II, 22, who has a listed address in Warrington Township, was walking out of the York Rescue Mission in the 300 block of West Market Street about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached by the robber.
The robber told Sanderson to empty his pockets but Sanderson replied, “You don’t even have a gun,” according to police. The robber then showed Sanderson the handle of a large-caliber revolver that was tucked in his waistband, police said.
Sanderson gave the robber his wallet, cell phone, MP3 player, cigarettes and lighter, police said.
But police said the robber wasn’t satisfied and ask Sanderson, “Is that all you have?”
Sanderson explained to the robber that he lives at the homeless shelter, police said.
"I can respect that," the robber said, then returned Sanderson’s property and calmly walked away, police said.
Huh. Now, before this turns into a discussion of “poor people can’t have things like cell phones and mp3 players, much less any cigarettes,” I’d like to point out that this robber has more of a heart than anyone who wants to play that game.
“You know, being raised by TV and movies, I always thought that Jesus just walked on water and told people not to have abortions, but it’s so much cooler than that. He was like E.T., Edward Scissorhands, and Marty McFly combined.”—
There are a number things the public “knows" as we head into the election that are just false. If people elect leaders based on false information, the things those leaders do in office will not be what the public expects or needs.
Here are eight of the biggest myths that are out there:
3) President Obama bailed out the banks.Reality: While many people conflate the “stimulus” with the bank bailouts, the bank bailouts were requested by President Bush and his Treasury Secretary, former Goldman Sachs CEO Henry Paulson. (Paulson also wanted the bailouts to be “non-reviewable by any court or any agency.”) The bailouts passed and beganbefore the 2008 election of President Obama.
5) Businesses will hire if they get tax cuts.Reality: A business hires the right number of employees to meet demand. Having extra cash does not cause a business to hire, but a business that has a demand for what it does will find the money to hire. Businesses want customers, not tax cuts.
7) Social Security is a Ponzi scheme, is “going broke,” people live longer, fewer workers per retiree, etc.Reality: Social Security has run a surplus since it began, has a trust fund in the trillions, is completely sound for at least 25 more years and cannot legally borrow so cannot contribute to the deficit (compare that to the military budget!) Life expectancy is only longer because fewer babies die; people who reach 65 live about the same number of years as they used to.
8) Government spending takes money out of the economy.Reality: Government is We, the People and the money it spends is on We, the People. Many people do not know that it is government that builds the roads, airports, ports, courts, schools and other things that are the soil in which business thrives. Many people think that all government spending is on “welfare” and “foreign aid” when that is only a small part of the government’s budget.
Spread this list around, please. We have less than two weeks before people actually vote.
Christine O’Donnell, the Republican candidate for Senate from Delaware, has admitted to using campaign funds to pay part of the rent on her townhouse, potentially a violation of campaign finance laws. The Associated Press reports:
[O’Donnell] acknowledges using campaign money to pay part of the rent on her current town house. Her attorney maintains someone with the Federal Election Commission approved the arrangement, although the commission’s rules say candidates can’t use campaign money for their mortgage or rent “even if part of the residence is being used by the campaign.”
She is clearly a gift to Democrats hoping not to lose that seat. How does this work into the message of self-reliance and transparency again? This is thievery.
I try. I’ve had people write me to tell me they were unfollowing me. Two most recent: I bashed Twilight and Christianity.
I can understand mocking your skygod would make you pissed enough to unfollow, but seriously, Twilight? That piece of shit? You can’t handle me mocking that? GTFO twice. Unfollow, follow, then unfollow again, please.
We all have the right to our own opinions, but the minute we - on a broad scale - shut off all opposing opinions and ideas, we’ve shut off the very thing that creates a diverse society. And that’s when I move to Finland. I’m more than willing to discuss ANYTHING endlessly, but when the other party is basically saying, “Can’t deal, LALALALALA CAN’T HEAR YOU!” that’s when I wash my hands of it.
You rule the universe for being proud of your beliefs.
