"Democracy! Bah! When I hear that I reach for my feather boa!" - Allen Ginsberg

49 notes

I swear, College Republican was in my Race and Ethnic Relations class. Professor discusses marginalization of American Indians in advertising, he asks: “Well, what about Irish Spring soap? And the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame?! That’s racist, too!”

And yes, he was 100% serious, and he would not listen or accept any explanation of why that was racist apples and oranges. Because he wasn’t racist, you see! He was just sick of people forgetting that whites are becoming the minority, so if we stoke minority hatred of whites, they’ll punish whites! If you persisted, he’d remind you he was only in this class for a diversity credit, not to debate.

If he passed that class, I feel like we all failed somehow.
