"Democracy! Bah! When I hear that I reach for my feather boa!" - Allen Ginsberg

analogwatch asked: I love my daughter, I love my daughter to bits (even when she is tearing my house apart and making me want to rip my hair out) but MY GOD NO I cannot handle other people's kids. My husband has tried to get me to start a day care and I always ask if he WANTS me to go insane. That is seriously what will happen. (I also don't want any more children. One is plenty, thankyouverymuch.)

So this is not just a phenomenon with the childfree folks — I hear that all the time: “Oh, you’ll LOVE kids once you have your own!”

I think a parent’s love is an evolutionary mechanism to prevent them from killing their offspring at times. Is that cynical?

  2. a-bit-unlikely said: It’s certainly not cynical. I have my own son and I might have more kids in the future but holy crap I cannot deal with other people’s kids. They drive me nutty.
  3. flufflogic said: I can attest that having kids does not make you love kids, it makes you love your own and despise those of others…
