stfugeraldgay:

Gerald Gay calls his fellow legislators “pinko’s” for not passing his misguided, North Korea-ish bill regulating the size of American flags in Wyoming classrooms, mandating their presence, and also requiring daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in Wyoming classrooms.

Anyone else notice the irony of him calling people “pinko’s” and the requiring of the pledge being a big fucking deal during the red scare? Oh yeah, that’s when we inserted “under God” too. Reminder to Gerald NotGay: The people who killed this were in YOUR OWN PARTY. As Sen. Cale Case said, patriotism “comes from the heart, not the law.”

STFU Gerald Gay

You should follow this. It’s a tumblr dedicated to the most homophobic, Islamophobic, misogynistic member of the Wyoming House. This man has actually stated that banning Sharia law is necessary in keeping with his ideal of legislating via his faith. He also wants to regulate the size of flags in Wyoming classrooms and mandate saying the pledge every morning. Kids who don’t want to are required to leave the room. Finally, he asked members of the Wyoming House to not use the word “gay” to describe homosexuality because it’s disrespectful to his last name.

He’s an all-around asshat.

Why Wyoming won’t be adopting Sharia law

stfugeraldgay:

And why Gerald Gay accidently advocates it:

Rep. Gerald Gay, R-Casper, introduced a proposed constitutional amendment [House Joint Resolution 8] — requiring two-thirds majority votes in the House and Senate, a governor’s signature, and a majority of those casting ballots in the November 2012 general election — that would forbid courts from considering international law or Sharia law when deciding cases.

A few well-established matters in law and practice in Wyoming will impede the advance of Islamic law for a long time to come:

1. Nobody’s proposing abolishing the Department of Revenue’s Liquor Division, the state wholesale liquor distribution center, or the Beacon Club.

2. Likewise, nobody’s out to shut down any hog producers.

3. Payday loan businesses still will charge bleepity-percent interest to customers.

4. Babes still will wear bikinis at Jackson Lake and Alcova.

5. Fools still will gamble at bingo, casinos and Texas Hold ‘Em.

On the other hand, the Wyoming Legislature appears to be succumbing to some Sharia practices:

1. Illegalizing gay marriage, and recognizing gay marriages performed in other states.

2. Not doing much about the gender-wage gap, which fits with Islam allowing both men and women to own property, but with a daughter’s inheritance usually being half that of her brothers.

3. Occasional talk about our laws coming from God. Of course, the debate persists about just what God we’re talking about.

Oops!

Christian pseudo Shari’ah law? Say it ain’t so…

OVERNIGHT EMERGENCY SHELTER IN CASPER
St. Mark’s ~ 701 South Wolcott
St. Mark’s-Casper will open its doors at 6pm this evening as an emergency shelter for those who are cold and/or homeless. This will be an all-night venture where we will feed, bed and befriend anyone who needs warm shelter. Here are the teams we need to spearhead the effort:
FOOD COLLECTION: Someone who will oversee collecting food, coffee, cookies from people who are willing to donate. Start with Smith’s Grocery.
FOOD PREP: We have a large commercial kitchen for making vast quantities of soup. I need a head chef and helpers.
TRANSPORTATION: A van to travel around town and look for people who need help and give them the info about where help is available AND transport them to the church.
BEDDING: Collect blankets, jackets and gloves. Call the Red Cross to get cots. Help organize that at the church as the night goes on.
MEDIA: Work with local media and social media to get out the word. Also, law enforcement dispatch will help us too.
OVERNIGHT PARTNERS: People who will stay at the church all night to keep our guests company. I would be happy to have caring community members also come, eat soup and be part of the scene.
The parish hall is occupied until 5:30 and we can take it over then. We have internet access there and can keep the wires burning as much as needed.
If you can help in any way, please let me know. Also, let me know if I have forgotten something here.
I really could use a partner in crime on this…or a co-captain, if you prefer.

I’m posting this in case I have followers in the Casper, Wyoming area who can help. This took off just this afternoon when Pamela posted this on Facebook.
This is a community coming together to care for the least among them, as Christians learn in Sunday school. I believe it’s something along the lines of “Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me.”
After all of the shitty things to come out of Wyoming lately, here’s a speck of heartwarming hope on an otherwise bone-chilling night.

Can our kids live with that?

If we truly believe that the Bible condemns homosexuality then of course we would not want our children to be gay or lesbian. I get that! But why in God’s name, if we are so sure that this is God’s opinion on the matter, do we continue to condone so many other facets of scripture that carry the same supposed punishment? Cursing your parents, marrying someone who is not a virgin, a betrothed woman who does not cry out while being raped, children who refuse to obey their parents (what if their parents want them to do something illegal or submit to incest and rape?), these are all punishable by death according to the Bible (read out of context). Look at this list and tell me, you think all of these are still valid? How many reading this think homosexuality is a sin “because the Bible says so” and yet got married and was not a virgin at the time?

The Bible condones slavery, but we know better now, don’t we? The Bible understood mental illness as demon possession, but we know better, don’t we? Anyone who wants to use a Bible as a weapon to suppress and deny the gay and lesbian population, must by extension still support slavery and inequality for women.
