Who’s shocked? National Organization for Marriage (NOM) sought to continue “fanning hostility” and aimed to “sideswipe Obama” by finding “attractive black Democrats” to challenge “white gay marriage advocates” in elections. More on this:
“The strategic goal of this project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks—two key Democratic constituencies,” says an internal report on 2008 and 2009 campaigns, in a section titled the “Not A Civil Right Project.”
“Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage, develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots,” advises the document, which is a road map to the successful campaign against same-sex marriage in California.
The document also targets Hispanic voters, whom conservatives have long hoped would join the backlash against gay rights.
“The Latino vote in America is a key swing vote, and will be so even more so in the future, both because of demographic growth and inherent uncertainty: Will the process of assimilation to the dominant Anglo culture lead Hispanics to abandon traditional family values?” the document asks. “We must interrupt this process of assimilation by making support for marriage a key badge of Latino identity - a symbol of resistance to inappropriate assimilation.”
NOM — heartless, homophobic, AND racist!

@Veritasworld is a troll who’s been rolling since the Florida debate on Thursday. He’s called me a repressed butch lesbian, and apparently, all of you are butch too. Oh, and you’re only following me to mock me. Check out his twitter. This guy has a hate boner for me and several other progressive women, calling us butch lesbians, sweetie, hon, etc.
It’s cute completely homophobic he thinks being a lesbian is an insult. Though I’m not a lesbian, it’s somehow an insult to be called one. Only a truly misogynistic, homophobic troll would think that’s a horrible, nasty thing to call someone.
Somewhere, there’s an unoccupied bridge. A lot of people are passing without answering riddles. Why? Because this guy is asleep on the job. Shameful.

This photo apparently approximates what Chicago Cardinal Francis George sees when he sees a gay pride parade.
A Catholic cardinal in Chicago on Wednesday compared the gay liberation movement to the Ku Klux Klan.
Appearing on Fox’s Chicago station, Cardinal Francis George complained that this year’s Gay Pride Parade route would mean that Our Lady of Mount Carmel might have to cancel Sunday mass for the first time in almost 100 years.
“You don’t want the gay liberation movement to morph into something like the Ku Klux Klan, demonstrating in the streets against Catholicism,” George said.
“That’s a little strong analogy, Ku Klux Klan,” Fox Chicago’s Dane Placko noted.
“It is,” George agreed. “But you take a look at the rhetoric — the rhetoric of the Ku Klux Klan, the rhetoric of some of the gay liberation people. Who is the enemy? The Catholic Church.”
Upon hearing the church’s concerns, parade organizers agreed to move the event start time from 10 a.m. to noon.
So… I could understand if the cardinal’s concern was that this loud, boisterous, fabulous parade might disrupt mass because of noise/parking access issues. THAT complaint I may not criticize as much.
However, Ku Klux Klan? Really? When was the last time they demonstrated against the Catholic Church? Anyhow, Cardinal George, I assure you - those at pride parades are typically there to demonstrate gay pride, not against your church or anyone else’s.
You should go, cardinal. You might learn something.
And it’s just as fantastic as it sounds:

The look of shock on her face is incredible. Elijah is brave little man, and I commend him.

This pledge comes courtesy of NOM (National Organization for Marriage) who feels like their liberties are being trampled upon if people take issue with things like Prop 8 H8.
Yep.
Just for funsies, here’s former NOM mastermind, now Culture War Victory Fund warrior Maggie Gallagher giving instructions on how to deal with your gay family members at ruin Thanksgiving. (And yes, it’s called the “Culture War Victory Fund”)
Homosexuality is not a sin, Maggie. That haircut is a sin. One of my buddies suggested that Maggie’s hairdresser is gay and hates her. I could see it.

A high school football coach in Wyoming has resigned after giving his players a joke survey filled with homophobic and sexist language.
The Johnson County school board in Buffalo this week accepted the resignation of head coach Pat Lynch, who had distributed the questionnaire, titled “Hurt Feelings Report,” before a playoff game last month, the Casper Star-Tribune reports. Lynch, however, will retain his guidance counselor position at Buffalo High School under administrative supervision.
The survey, under a list of reasons for hurt feelings, includes such choices as “I am a queer,” “I am a pussy,” “I am a little bitch,” and “I have woman like hormones.” It asks for the name of the “little sissy filing report” and his “girly-man signature,” plus the “real-man signature” of the person accused of causing hurt feelings.
Yep. They’re still letting him counsel high school students. I am horrified. You can view the survey here. I used to live in Buffalo, and I’m sure the board thinks they’re playing it safe.
They’re not.
Imagine needing to talk to someone, being gay, and knowing your counselor thinks this is hilarious. This is bullying and intimidation. A petition was just started to get him fired. Sign here. Please.

At that point, between what I had witnessed on the marriage tour and RJ’s post about marriage equality, I really came to understand that gays and lesbians were just real people who wanted to live real lives and be treated equally as opposed to, for example, wanting to destroy American culture. No, they didn’t want to destroy American culture, they wanted to openly [participate] in it. I was well on my way to becoming a supporter of civil marriage equality[…]
Once you understand the great difference between civil marriage and holy marriage, there is not one valid reason to forbid the former from same-sex couples, and all that is left to protect is the latter.
Indeed Christians and Catholics alike are well within their right to demand that holy matrimony, a sacrament and service performed by the Church and recognized by the Church, remains between a man and a woman as their faith would dictate. However, that has nothing to do with civil marriage, performed and recognized by the State in accordance with state law.
My name is Louis J. Marinelli, a conservative-Republican and I now support full civil marriage equality. The constitution calls for nothing less.
