When you have 40 percent of kids being born out of wedlock, and among certain ethnic groups the vast majority being born out of wedlock, you ask yourself, how are we going to have a society in the future? Because these kids are raised in poverty in many cases, they’re in abusive settings. The likelihood of them being able to finish high school or college drops dramatically in single-family homes. And we haven’t been willing to talk about this.

Mitt Romney, at Wednesday’s CNN debate in Arizona.

Hey, you know what prevents unwanted pregnancy? This.

Love the insinuation that poverty IS child abuse. And the racism. That throwaway remark is quite possibly one of the worst things to come out of last night’s debate.

I could say more, but Elon James White said it much better than I ever could:

I salute you, sir.

Rick Santorum on religion and governance

aggressiveretreat:

cognitivedissonance:

Rick Santorum: The Constitution is the how for the US, Christianity is the why. The US is the only country where rights come from God. If the government gives you rights, the government can take them away.

Fuck…

Is this a direct quote? You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.

It’s a paraphrase. Here’s what he said from the transcript:

SUZANNE BASS, JACKSONVILLE RESIDENT: Suzanne Bass, I’m an attorney in Jacksonville. Welcome to the great city of Jacksonville. My question, how would your religious beliefs, if you’re elected, impact the decisions that you make in the office of the presidency?

SANTORUM: Faith is a very, very important part of my life, but it’s a very, very important part of this country. The foundational documents of our country - everybody talks about the Constitution, very, very important. But the Constitution is the “how” of America. It’s the operator’s manual. The “why” of America, who we are as a people, is in the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights.”

The Constitution is there to do one thing: protect God-given rights. That’s what makes America different than every other country in the world. No other country in the world has its rights — rights based in God-given rights, not government-given rights.

And so when you say, well, faith has nothing to do with it, faith has everything to do with it. If rights come… If our president believes that rights come to us from the state, everything government gives you, it can take away. The role of the government is to protect rights that cannot be taken away. And so the answer to that question is, I believe in faith and reason and approaching the problems of this country but understand where those rights come from, who we are as Americans and the foundational principles by which we have changed the world.

Because of last night’s Ron Paul fans, I didn’t get a chance to put this together until today. No matter - it’s still fresh.

If you missed last night’s debate, you can view the video here.

I’ll be live-blogging tonight’s State of the Union address and will have a very special edition of State of the Union bingo up before the speech. Feel free to send me your suggestions for squares.

Submit cards here or email completed cards to meglanker@gmail.com

Good luck on losing by winning, y’all! GIF prizes for first submission and most bingos on one card!

Tonight, the circus rolls into Florida.

All four remaining GOP candidates have been confirmed for tonight’s debate sponsored by NBC News, the Tampa Bay Times, The National Journal and the Florida Council of 100. The debate will take place at the University of South Florida in Tampa. This will be the first of 2 debates this week focusing on the Florida GOP primary on Tuesday, January 31st. Note the air times on the east and west coast.

Television Air Time: Monday, January 23rd at 9pm ET, 8pm CT, 8 PM MT and 9pm PT on NBC

Live Streams: (airing 9pm ET) NBCPolitics.comNational Journal, and TampaBay.com

Participants: Gingrich, Romney, Santorum, Paul

My prediction: Mitt Romney will continue to prove his mettle as the only candidate capable of possibly losing to a Washington insider who resigned from the US House after leaving an epic legacy of ethics violations, while committing serial adultery, and kiting checks on the side

CNN Debate in less than 10 minutes

Also, don’t forget about GOP Bingo! Cards are here.

Since I didn’t have time to update/replace Rick Perry spaces, take any space that mentions Perry as a free space. It’s redistribution of the free spaces so everyone has more. Because I am more of a socialist than Obama. </sarcasm>

I’ll miss Perry’s performances. Someone make an emotional montage saying goodbye, please.

Submit your bingo cards here, or email them to meglanker@gmail.com.

Here’s the link itself to the album. Hover your mouse in the right-hand corner of each image to download the card. As always, submit your card here or via email to meglanker@gmail.com. GIF prizes awarded for the most bingos on one card, first bingo, most bingos across all cards, and blackouts (Note: Can lead to alcohol-related blackouts).

What better way to celebrate a day named for Martin Luther King, Jr. than to watch a bunch of old rich white men discuss how they’ll “save” America? Now with the only adult on stage *cough* Jon Huntsman *cough* out of the race, I’m sure it’ll be interesting. Will Newt finally vanquish Romney with his mind lasers? Will Perry strike out on an adventure by counting to our? Watch it and see!

These cards are also good for the CNN debate on Thursday night. I’m only going to change them if someone else drops out.

Live-stream for the Fox News debate is here. I’ll be live-blogging the debate @meglanker on Twitter.

Spread the word and good luck! Remember, we all lose at GOP Bingo, so let’s lose together.

On GOP Debate Bingo, Obama commentary, and Rick Perry

“Barack Obama is a communist” commentary on a story about Perry leaving the race, and now my day is complete. And really? Anyone…? Ooh, the possibilities are endless.

Dennis Kucinich?

Bernie Sanders?

Ooh, or Buddy Roemer? Y’know, someone who’s actually running? If Perry’s gone, can Buddy take his place?

Anyhow…
