I have bronchitis. Thanks to the ACA, I was able to get medicine for $0. #ThanksObama
that came from taxes I paid.
Well, let my know how much I owe you and I’ll drop a few pennies in the mail. War comes from taxes you paid, and I personally dislike the amount I pay going for that… Maybe we should check “yes” or “no” on our 1040 forms this year for allocation of tax dollars.
I’m sorry you think I’m lying, but I’m not. I qualified for the Medicaid expansion under the ACA, which is partially funded through taxpayer revenue. I don’t think the IRS mailed you a letter saying, “Nah nah nah nah naaaaaaah! This year’s tax dollars went to pay for medicine for poor people mwahahaha!” Who knows? Maybe YOUR portion of tax dollars went to a Hellfire missile that took out a village in Afghanistan. Ooh, how exciting for you!
Comfort yourself with that thought as I use my inhaler, which I would not have been able to afford without the ACA.
Actually, Obama care reduces the deficit.
Watch this video linked above about how the ACA reduces the deficit! It’s incredibly informative AND well done. Then forward to your auntie that keeps sending you the annoying email forwards about death panels.
This is the sentiment of a decent human being. Better they go for this than endless war…

But if this gets any worse, I can actually go to the doctor now since I signed up under the Affordable Care Act and qualified for Medicaid. There’s several providers in my area, and most have same-day appointments. If I need any prescriptions, those are covered too. I haven’t had coverage like this since I was in the military.
So yeah… That durn Obamacare…
P.S. If we had single payer, the question of qualifying for Medicaid would be moot. ALL citizens would be covered.
Yeah, that feels reeeaaaall good.
Jerry wants you kids to get off your “parent’s” plan.
And probably his lawn. By God, he had Bootstraps™ at 18 — which, by the way, was 50 years ago.
I bet the world’s changed a tick since.
"Papa" John Schnatter, Papa John’s founder and CEO, is back in the headlines once more for his assertion that there’s no way on God’s green Earth he can afford to provide health care for a portion of his employees, as mandated by the Affordable Care Act. Now, Schnatter hasn’t been hurting for cash. As Brian Warner writes:
When Papa John Schnatter hosted a fundraiser for Mitt Romney earlier this year, the Republican candidate began his remarks by saying: “Who would’ve imagined pizza could build this? This is really something. Don’t you love this country? What a home this is, what grounds these are, the pool, the golf course…. This is a real tribute to America, to entrepreneurship.” If your house impresses Mitt Romney, the ultimate one percenter, you know it must be pretty awesome. To start, John Schnatter’s 40,000 square foot castle is located in a wealthy country club suburb of Louisville, Kentucky. The property is spread out over a 16 acre estate and as Romney mentioned, features several swimming pools, a private lake and a golf course.
But who knows what’s going to happen now that the health care mandate could supposedly cost him $0.15 a pizza?! Schnatter claims the costs will be $5-8 million per year — though he had no trouble with giving away two million free pizzas this September that cost the company 24 to 32 million dollars.
Maybe he was counting on Mitt Romney winning.

As I wrote, I may not be able to afford their overpriced pizza, but I can afford a nickel, a dime, and a stamp. I encourage folks to help save the rich and send Papa John some nickels and dimes to offset this gigantic burden, especially since it’s not financially feasible for him to survive without the extra few million. Apparently.
It’s the least we can do for folks working under such a selfish bastard.
Dear Wheaton College,
This is you:
This is my brain:
Why? Because the stupid literally hurts. You’d think this is something your lawyers would check on before going all religious martyr for the cause in court…
You’d think that.

These interview segments aired on Cognitive Dissonance July 20th, July 27th, and August 3rd. Sen. Phil Nicholas, R-Laramie, is running for re-election in Wyoming’s Senate District 10. His opponent is Prof. Anne Alexander of Laramie, also a Republican — so this one’s decided in the primary, kids.
I had requests to upload the interview segments, so here they are.

This includes his answers on marriage equality and the war on women that made the live-chat, Facebook, and the phone blow up.
Mitt Romney seems to be laboring under the impression that whatever he says in a foreign country will—like a weekend in Las Vegas—somehow stay in that foreign country.
Either that or he figures nobody back home is paying any attention. Speaking today to a small group of Israeli contributors to his campaign, the GOP presidential candidate—and supposed sworn enemy of government controlled healthcare—had kind words for the success of Israel’s healthcare system:
"When our health care costs are completely out of control. Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the GDP in Israel? 8 percent. You spend 8 percent of GDP on health care. And you’re a pretty healthy nation"
Does he listen to himself talk? Or does he just say words? I am 100% convinced his staff and advisers hate him or something. It’s like An Idiot Abroad: When Mittens Attacks.
I mean, if he wants to campaign on socialized medicine, that’s cool too… But I’m pretty sure he just figured what happens in Israel, stays in Israel. Except internets, Mitt. There’s always the internet.
Ten Republican-controlled state legislatures have voted to defund Planned Parenthood since the 2010 midterm elections, but the clinics affected by the cuts will not have to shut their doors any time soon. The Obama administration so far has awarded hefty new federal family planning grants to Planned Parenthood clinics in three states that have cut the providers’ funding: New Jersey, Tennessee and North Carolina.
While Obama supports Planned Parenthood, the direct Title X grants are not exactly unusual: HHS has contracted directly with Planned Parenthood providers for years, including under former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. But the Planned Parenthood clinics that are receiving new federal grants this year are applying for those grants for the first time after defunding in their states created a need for federal money.
Paige Johnson, a spokesperson for the Planned Parenthood clinic in Durham, said that clinic has never appealed to HHS for Title X grants because it was always able to partner with the state. But after the state stopped contracting with Planned Parenthood, the clinic made the case to HHS that it is the primary provider of family planning to low-income women in the area. Under federal law, HHS is required to award grant funds in a manner that expands women’s access to care in the most cost-effective way possible in areas of the greatest need.
Trust me, they mad.
A huge thank you to the Obama administration for putting women’s health above the GOP’s hissy fits.
Hey guys. I know times are tough and money is tight for everyone, but if you could spare a few dollars to help out a friend of mine, I’d be forever grateful. The following is copied from my friend Junior’s facebook:
My family is coming together to raise money for my aunt Griselda Lopez’s medical expenses, treatments and related costs due to her Systemic Lupus that she was diagnosed with back in 1997. Unfortunately she has been uable to work as of late because of this (and other complications with her illness) and now we are holding a fundraiser Saturday, July 28th from 6pm-2am at Viv’s tap Room in Crystal Lake, IL. There is a $5 dontation at the door, raffels and all the proceeds of this event are going to the Griselda Lopez Medical Fund.
Please check out www.griseldalopez.com for more information about Gris and how you can make a dontation! Also there is a facebook event that was created so if you are interested in coming please let me know and I will be more then happy to give you all the info!
Again, if you could spare a few dollars I (and Junior) would greatly appreciate it. If you can’t (completely understandable) could you please give this a signal boost?
I owe a big thanks to everyone who has reblogged so far, you guys are fantastic!
(Even Ten thinks so!)
Just reblogging now for anyone who may have missed this earlier.
President Barack Obama has directed federal officials to offer seasonal firefighters the option of purchasing federal health insurance coverage, White House officials told The Denver Post Tuesday.
The temporary seasonal workers who descend into fire zones are usually young people who work sundry outdoor jobs, depending on the season. Some pick up contract work removing trees in the fall or they work at ski areas in the winter. Many are college students.
But because they are not full-time U.S. Forest Service employees, they previously did not have the option of purchasing federal health insurance.
Under a directive that will be made in the “near future” from the Office of Personnel Management, this group will get that option by the end of this month, White House officials said.
I had no idea they were not eligible. Thank you to the Obama Administration for taking care of our first responders in this regard. Now, let’s work to make it more affordable.
Declaring that you’re moving to Canada to avoid Obamacare is like saying, “I’m moving to Brooklyn to avoid hipsters!”
I’ve decided I want to own a business just in case the GOP manages to pass their overbroad conscience bill. I have a moral objection to providing any kind of healthcare to a person who would strip it from others based on what a sky-god supposedly meant.
Yeah, I have that moral objection. But I would provide comprehensive health insurance anyhow. Why? Because it’s the right goddamn thing to do, even if I feel those folks should reap what they have sown for others.
If you have a moral objection to birth control, psychological treatment, etc. – don’t use that service. Don’t use contraception.
If you want to live by the Bible, hooray for you. Not all of us want that. Some of us don’t see an unintended pregnancy as a miracle. Some of us don’t think you can pray away depression.
No one is preventing you from attending church or practicing your faith. No one is stopping you from attempting to ram your version of Jesus Christ as a science-denying patriarch down my throat. All we ask is that you obey laws passed years ago.
If a church wanted to violate child labor laws, would politicians support an exception? After the start of the 2012 election cycle, I’m afraid to ask. We already allow churches to waive anti-discrimination laws and give them privileged tax status based upon their status as a church. If churches are going to lobby to control my body, the least they can do is acknowledge their organizational purpose is no longer shepherding a flock – it’s ringleading the political circus.
Until you render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, I argue churches pay taxes and follow the laws of any other political organization/business. There’s my moral objection – currently, they’re not. Assuming the GOP throws a successful tantrum on this issue, I will continue to make this moral objection.
I want to think the American people can see this conscience clause BS as a reactionary throwback, little more than circuses in a time of limited bread. But when the people elected to lead us are leading that circus parade of morality police instead, I fear my faith may be misplaced.
So in the future, come work for my law firm. I’ll provide comprehensive coverage for contraception and the like – even for those who change their minds and join the 98% of Catholics and 99% of Americans who admit to using contraception at least once. You won’t have to ask for it because it will already be there.
Why? Because it’s the ethical, moral thing to do.
