Dr. T, posting on my friend’s Facebook about the Indiana legislature’s consideration of another mandatory ultrasound bill that would not only demand transvaginal ultrasounds before certain types of abortion, it would also mandate another unnecessary transvaginal ultrasound two weeks later.
Testimony in favor of the bill culminated with Indiana Right to Life Director Sue Swayze saying she “doesn’t understand the problem with the procedure. I got pregnant vaginally. Something else could come in my vagina for a medical test that wouldn’t be that intrusive to me. So I find that argument a little ridiculous.” I dare her to say that to someone who is a survivor of rape.
This is like saying since she herself once consented to sex, she’s consented to have sex with everyone because that’s not intrusive. Not to mention being penetrated by a hard plastic probe in a doctor’s office usually differs from consensual sex. Oh, and did the state legislature dictate the position and manner that you and your partner were to use to conceive? Oh, no, because that’s a private choice, amirite?
The physician above nails it. Doctors should care for patients without legislators mandating how it should be done or denying patients care they seek from qualified physicians.
Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate and Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock on abortion and pregnancy resulting from rape.
Essentially, if you have a uterus, and you become pregnant from a rape, just remember — that’s God turning rapey lemons into blessed unwanted lemonade. </sarcasm>
Oh, and what’s that Mitt Romney? You’re supporting him? In an ad posted this Sunday that’s all over Indiana’s airwaves?
Yep, because there’s nothing worse than Obamacare amirite? Y’know, other than being forced to bear your rapist’s child because your senator said his God said it should be so…
In a statement released this evening, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz said: “Richard Mourdock’s rape comments are outrageous and demeaning to women. Unfortunately, they’ve become part and parcel of the modern Republican Party’s platform toward women’s health, as Congressional Republicans like Paul Ryan have worked to outlaw all abortions and even narrow the definition of rape. As Mourdock’s most prominent booster and the star of Mourdock’s current campaign ads, Mitt Romney should immediately denounce these comments and request that the ad featuring him speaking directly to camera on Mourdock’s behalf be taken off the air.”
Agreed. Your move, governor.
A federal judge has halted enforcement of a law cutting off funding to Planned Parenthood of Indiana and other entities that provide abortions.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt on Friday night means Planned Parenthood, which stopped serving its 9,300 Medicaid patients last week after running out of donated funds, can again see those patients. The judge also enjoined a part of the law that would have taken effect July 1, requiring doctors to tell patients seeking abortions that a fetus can feel pain at 20 weeks or less.
Both were part of an anti-abortion bill that passed the Republican dominated legislature with significant support and was signed into law by Mitch Daniels. Pratt’s injunction means the two provisions cannot be enforced while she is hearing a lawsuit, brought by Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union, arguing that those parts of the law should be struck down.
Planned Parenthood of Indiana will stop seeing Medicaid patients after Monday because of an Indiana law that cut the provider’s funding.
PPIN went to court last month to prevent Indiana from cutting funding to the state’s largest reproductive health care provider. U. S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt said she would make a decision on whether to enjoin the law by July 1.
"Our 9,300 Medicaid patients, including those who had appointments Tuesday, are going to see their care disrupted," Betty Cockrum, president and CEO of PPIN, said in a statement. The Medicaid funds stopped May 11, the day Republican Governor Mitch Daniels signed a law that restricts abortions and cuts federal funding to Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood performs abortions, but even before the Indiana law passed, federal money could not be used to pay for abortions. Indiana cut Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood that covers other reproductive health services, including contraception and cancer screening.
After Monday, PPIN said it will have run out of the donations it used to pay for existing Medicaid patients after the bill made national news… If the judge doesn’t make a favorable ruling by July 1, PPIN said it will start closing health centers and reducing staff.
North Carolina and Kansas have also restricted funding to Planned Parenthood, but their actions do not affect payments from the federal Medicaid program. Indiana blocks both state and federal payments.
Ideologues: Your actions have real life consequences. Observe above. The money you blocked paid for zero abortions. It DID pay for preventative care, cancer screening, and reproductive care. It DID give people all over Indiana access to care they couldn’t otherwise afford.
Now, I’m going to use language here you may understand better. Planned Parenthood also provides services that have nothing to do with no-no parts, naughty bits, or whatever you call them. Here’s a short list:
Expect an increase in emergency room visits, Indiana. Any of the pro-lifers want to step up and help pay for these things? Hmmm? It’s the pro-life thing to do, right?

This week, a Mother Jones editor named Adam Weinstein got into a Twitter tête à tête with an Indiana lawyer who called on riot police in Madison to use “live ammunition” to clear protesters out of the state Capitol.
It turned out that lawyer, Jeff Cox, is a deputy attorney general in the state. And — perhaps unsurprisingly — he’s left a long online trail of controversial statements and diktats.
"[A]gainst thugs physically threatening legally-elected state legislators & governor?" he tweeted back at Weinstein. "You’re damn right I advocate deadly force."
Jesus fucking Christ. This isn’t Libya, son. Stop taking lessons from an insane genocidal dictator. And step the fuck down.
"Mah two year old doesn’t even know what that is yet!" So what’s the worry? Well, building a giant penis out of snow is illegal in Lafayette, Indiana.
I just love how they blur out the snow cock. Fucking Indiana…
