Tremendous honor to meet these WWII veterans this morning and help them gain access to their memorial.
“We’re very excited. It’s exactly what we wanted, and we got it.” — Michele Bachmann on the prospect of a government shutdown, Sept. 28th, 2013.
"This is about the happiest I’ve seen [U.S. House] members in a long time because we’ve seen we’re starting to win this dialogue on a national level." — Michele Bachmann on Sean Hannity’s show Wednesday night.
So while she smiles and poses for the camera with veterans, remember: Denying access to the memorial is exactly what the GOP wanted, until the camera is pointed at them.
Oh, and those vets? They may have access to their memorial, but within 30 days or less, they won’t have their pensions and disability payments. Veterans receiving the GI Bill are already affected, and services like new claims, receipt of death benefits, and burials in national cemeteries are being performed only intermittently — or not at all.
Keep smiling, you heartless clown.
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) suggested the Muslim Brotherhood was behind the 9/11 attacks during a press conference in Egypt on Saturday. “We have seen the threat that the Muslim Brotherhood has posed here for the people in Egypt. We have seen the threat that the Muslim Brotherhood has posed around the world,” Bachmann said. “We stand against this great evil. We are not for them. We remember who caused 9/11 in America. We remember who it was that killed 3,000 brave Americans. We have not forgotten.”
Well, apparently Bachmann’s forgotten who committed 9/11 — the majority of the hijackers were Saudis, from Saudi Arabia, acting under the direction of Osama Bin Laden and al-Qaeda.
Also, the Muslim Brotherhood is not BFFs with al-Qaeda. Their leadership has criticized and publicly feuded with the leadership of al-Qaeda, accusing the organization of damaging the cause of Islam. While the Muslim Brotherhood has condoned acts of political violence, they did condemn 9/11 and are not responsible for it. Further, they aren’t affiliated with al-Qaeda — though some factions of the Syrian rebel groups were considering backing with Tomahawks from afar and weapons on the ground, courtesy of Uncle Sam. In the shadow of 9/11, we’re considering siding with al-Qaeda affiliated forces. Bachmann should think about that for a few moments before shooting her mouth off.
Bachmann is in Egypt with Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Steve King (R-Iowa). Essentially, the Three Stooges of Islamophobia are giving press statements in a region they don’t even attempt to understand, on events they know nothing about, and denouncing billions of people based on the actions of radicals. So business as usual…
She could do some real Andy Kaufman-esque shit.
Remind me never to follow her at an open mic.
Headline of the night. And it’s still 50/50 in Minnesota.
Now, wouldn’t that just be the cherry on top?
Romney refused to condemn Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and four other Republicans who have alleged that Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is part of a Muslim Brotherhood campaign to infiltrate the American government. During an event in Reno, Nevada Romney dodged a question about the allegations, saying simply, “I’m not going to tell other people what things to talk about. Those are not things that are part of my campaign.” A growing number of Republicans, including House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) have condemned Bachmann.
Of course he refused to answer the question. That would require taking a stance.
And now we’ve come full circle:
Earlier this month, Bachmann and four other Republicans sent a letter to inspectors general in the State, Homeland Security, Defense and Justice departments calling on them to investigate “potential Muslim Brotherhood infiltration” of the Obama administration by [Huma] Abedin, an aide to Secretary Clinton and wife of former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY).
As evidence of their claims, the five Republicans cited “The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within,” a ten-part video course produced by the Center for Security Policy.
The movies claim that the “Muslim Brotherhood was helped in its efforts to achieve information dominance over the George W. Bush administration” by Norquist, a Christian. The influential anti-tax activist is also accused of using “various organizations to promote Islamist agendas.”
Nearly every Republican in Congress has signed Norquist’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge, vowing to oppose any and all tax increases. Only 14 Republican members of 112th Congress have refused to sign the pledge.
Bachmann has been widely criticized for her attack on Abedin. Republicans like House Speaker John Boehner, Arizona Sen. John McCain, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and former Bachmann campaign manager Ed Rollins have all condemned the Minnesota congresswoman. But she has insisted the matter needs to be investigated.
Guess who are signatories of Norquist’s pledge? Reps. Michele Bachmann, Trent Franks, Louie Gohmert, Thomas Rooney, and Lynn Westmoreland — the Islamophobic Joe McCarthy Club.
Perhaps they should investigate themselves. Just sayin’. It’s no crazier than Bachmann’s original theory.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) putting the smackdown on Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) for baseless attacks on Secretary Hillary Clinton’s top aide Huma Abedin.
Joe McCarthy Michele Bachmann essentially accused Abedin of working on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood to inflitrate the U.S. government, and released an odd, 16-page letter in defense of her witch-hunt against Muslim Americans. Said witch-hunters also include Reps. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), Thomas Rooney (R-Fla.), and Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.).
Sen. McCain, bravo. I’d buy you a beer if you’d just disown famed Islamophobe Frank Gaffney completely. Here’s video of him taking Bachmann to task:
