Who gave you the right to occupy America? Nobody! You wanna keep jumping up and yelling that you’re the 99 percent? How presumptuous and arrogant can you think you are?!

Karl Rove, to Occupy Baltimore protesters on Nov. 15th at Johns Hopkins University

ThinkProgress has the scoop:

Last night, former Bush official Karl Rove appeared at Johns Hopkins University to speak as a part of the annual Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium. Rove soon discovered that he wasn’t going to deliver his right-wing rhetoric unopposed, as a cry of “Mic Check!” rang out among the audience.

"Karl Rove is the architect of Occupy Iraq, the architect of Occupy Afghanistan!" yelled the demonstrators.

Well, they’re right. He is a major reason why we are still in Afghanistan and Iraq…

And Karl, for future reference, here’s what gives us the right to Occupy America:

You might have heard of it before. But I doubt it.

Finally, the real issues are being addressed. This is the reason all the right people are losing it. They are not stupid. They know that this bell cannot be unrung.

I urge you to read the Occupy Manifesto, written by the New York City General Assembly. It is unavoidably clear. This is not directionless action. If it were, the media would have moved on.

Who should be losing the most sleep over all this? Not Wall Street and not the ultrarich. No. It should be the president. He dropped the ball. It’s cool. The people picked it up. Sir, with all due respect, you’d better recognize.

Henry Rollins, "Occupy America"

They tell you are we are dreamers. The true dreamers are those who think things can go on indefinitely the way they are. We are not dreamers. We are awakening from a dream which is tuning into a nightmare. We are not destroying anything. We are only witnessing how the system is destroying itself…

Carnivals come cheap. What matters is the day after, when we will have to return to normal life. Will there be any changes then? I don’t want you to remember these days you know, like ‘oh, we were young, it was beautiful.’ Remember that our basic message is ‘We are allowed to think about alternatives’…

Philosopher and critical theorist Slavoj Žižek addressing the Occupy Wall Street protesters this Sunday at Liberty Plaza in New York City.

"We are allowed to think about alternatives…" Consider this every single time a demonstration is arrested or pepper-sprayed. Thinking about alternatives, asking for alternatives, considering alternatives, etc… all this seems to be very intimidating to those in power.

Žižek speaks the truth when he proclaims that we are watching the system destroy itself. We are. Late capitalism is a snake eating its own tail.

My #OccupyAmerica #OccupyTogether playlist

I feel this is a work in progress, so feel free to suggest more songs.

#OccupyAmerica #OccupyTogether Music List
For #OccupyCasper or anyone else

Some of these songs are sarcastic, or just general expressions of angst. Some others, well, the message is pretty clear. You’ll find multiple genres and decades too.

So I made an #OccupyAmerica #OccupyTogether playlist…

My list has 361 songs. I’m going to post it later, but I’m curious - if you were making an Occupy Wall Street playlist, or Occupy Together list, what songs would you put on it? If you feel like sharing why, do it.

Meanwhile, I’m going to listen to what I have so far. I’m sitting in my living room totally calm, but on the inside I’m all SQUEE!!

Kiddos, I’m wicked stoked for #OccupyCasper this weekend, you have no idea. Let this GIF of George Takei dancing while dressed as a nun express my glee:
