The impotent right-wing rage on my Facebook feed is incredible…

From “Hitler took guns!” to “Hitler surrounded himself with kids!” to “OBAMA IS A NAZI BUT CONSTITUTION I LOVES MY GUN!” to “IMPEACH THE FÜHRER!” that’s got to be a record for going all Godwin.

The comments about Secret Service are just precious. It’s like Obama is the first president in the history of ever to use a Secret Service detail for himself and his family. That doesn’t make him a hypocrite. Newsflash: Ronald Reagan used Secret Service AND supported gun control. Chew on that for little bit. Bet it tastes like your own foot and hypocrisy.

For fuck’s sake, y’all. You can still own a gun. No one is taking that away. What we’re looking at now is maybe you don’t need a military-grade, semi-automatic assault rifle with a high capacity magazine for home defense and deer slaying.

And by the way, if you can’t get a deer in a few shots, it deserves to get away.

Chill. The. Fuck. Out.

Rep. Walsh: That’s not the problem! The problem is you’ve got to be consistent. And I dont want government meddling in the marketplace. Yeah, they move from Goldman Sachs to the White House, I understand all of that. But you gotta’ be consistent. And it’s not the private marketplace that created this mess. What created mess was your government, which has demanded for years that everybody be in a home. And we’ve made it easy as possible for people to be in homes. […] Don’t blame banks, and don’t blame the marketplace for the mess we’re in right now! I am tired of hearing that crap! This pisses me off! Too many people don’t listen. […] Quiet for a minute! Quiet for a minute!
Constituent: Joe, what did I say–
Rep. Walsh: Quiet for a minute or I’m going to ask you to leave. You need to listen, or I’m going to ask you to leave.

Rep. Joe Walsh of Illinois, screaming at a constituent during his “Cup of Joe with Joe” in Gurnee, Illinois this Sunday.

Just a reminder: Walsh is the "True Blue" family values leader who is over $100K behind on child support payments and may be cited for contempt if he ditches his next hearing.

Video here:

Walsh also falsely claimed that unions somehow have more power and influence than corporations in America. The constituent had asked a very reasonable question regarding the influence of bank lobbyists and the revolving door of former senators becoming lobbyists or heads of corporations, or vice versa.

The 2011 NOW Left-Wing Activism Conference

Don’t let the innocuous title fool you. An excerpt:

A worthless organization designed to elect political leftists is convening a conference in Tampa, Florida. Hopefully Tampa will be given a good scrubbing so that it is non-toxic in time for the 2012 Republican Convention.

From June 24-26, the National Organization for Women infested a nice part of Florida. Some delegates may be trying out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but most are there for their annual conference, where they cry on each other’s oversized shoulder pads and insist that they are relevant.

Read on for one of the most blatant displays of misogyny, homophobia, etc… and yes, it’s written by a dude.

I think all this is, is an outpost in culture that says, ‘Listen, I feel like you’re destroying everything else that I have. You’ve gotten involved in the raising of my children, the way I discipline them, the way I feed them, whether or not I can smoke in the car, whether or not I have them properly equipped; you’ve just gotten into my life so much, let’s just let me define the relationship I’m in, OK?

Rep. Frank Peasley R-Douglas, on why there’s “nothing cruel or wrong in keeping the definition of marriage the way it’s been for thousands of years” and “fighting government intrusion into longstanding traditions.”

(So this pretty much sums up my reaction to a right-wing conservative bastardo using the whole “let me define my relationship” thing…)

Wyoming wouldn’t recognize the validity of same-sex marriages performed in other states under a bill that has received its first committee approval.

The House Education Committee on Monday voted 7-to-2 to recommend approval of House Bill 74, sponsored by Rep. Owen Petersen, R-Mountain View, and others.

Petersen says the Legislature must provide legal guidance as same-sex couples married in other states move to Wyoming.

Wyoming law specifies marriage can only exist between one and one woman but also says the state must respect legal marriages performed elsewhere.

Scores of opponents of the bill crowded a committee hearing room. Many said it was ironic that Wyoming would consider a bill on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. that discriminates against same-sex couples.

Our last chance to stop this is in the State House. It WILL pass the Senate. I am begging all supporters of marriage equality to pick just one representative (republican is a safe bet) and email them to express your disapproval of this discriminatory measure. There are enough legislators on the fence in the house to make this worth trying. Even one email helps. Let them know there are people outside Wyoming who are watching.

Fox News: “Are the unemployed dangerous?” “Will the 99ers lose it?” Seriously.

If it happens, I will not be shocked. The banks get billions, the poor get nothing. Then an extension of their benefits is held hostage by the GOP in favor of tax cuts for millionaires. NO ONE can argue the class war does not exist. It exists and it’s becoming less subtle every single day.

As a side note, if you can, donate to your local food bank. They’re going to get hit hard, especially if these benefits stay cut off for long.

Judge: Let lesbians into military so male GIs can turn them straight

The conservative news site The Daily Callerhas removed part of an article that suggested lesbians be allowed into the US military so that their male colleagues can “convert” them.

Critics say the article went as far as to suggest corrective rape for lesbians.

"Lesbians should be allowed to serve, gay men should not," declared Joe Rehyansky in an article published Monday. Rehyansky, an Army veteran who served in Vietnam, is a part-time magistrate in Hamilton County, Tennessee, and a former assistant district attorney.

In the original article, Rehyansky concluded that his lesbians-only policy “would get the distaff part of our homosexual population off our collective ‘Broke Back,’ thus giving straight male GIs a fair shot at converting lesbians and bringing them into the mainstream.”

That alarmed some LGBT activists, who note that much of the article before that comment argued that men are rapists by nature. Rehyansky’s argument that gay men should continue to be banned from the military was based on this notion:

[S]houldn’t the overwhelmingly straight warriors who answer their county’s call be spared the indignity of showering with other men who achieve lascivious enjoyment from the sight of those lithe naked bodies, and who may be tempted to seek more than the view? They are, after all, guys.

In the early evolutionary years of the human species, Rehyansky argued, “It fell to men to swing through the trees and scour the caves in search of as many women as possible to subdue and impregnate — a tough job but someone had to do it.”

There are literally no words to express my anger here. This is just vile. I’ve heard this pseudo-intellectual evolutionary argument in many contexts, but this is the most disgusting. This man is the ultimate privilege denying dude, and unlike the meme, it’s not funny. At all.

1 note

That wave of anger began with the parallel 2008 cataclysms of the economy’s collapse and Barack Obama’s ascension. The mood has not subsided since. But in the final stretch of 2010, the radical right’s anger is becoming less focused, more free-floating — more likely to be aimed at “government” in general, whatever the location or officials in charge. The anger is also more likely to claim minorities like gays, Latinos and Muslims as collateral damage. This is a significant and understandable shift, if hardly a salutary one. The mad-as-hell crowd in America, still not seeing any solid economic recovery on the horizon, will lash out at any convenient scapegoat.
