The Tea Party voter guide for Iowa

First, pro-tip for the Tea Party: When you send out a voter guide, spell the names of the candidates correctly.

From the Tea Party Issues Ballot Guide - Iowa Edition:

STRAW POLL

 • Which candidate do you support for President?
 • Mitt Romney
 • Rick Santorum
 • Buddy Roemer
 • Michelle [sic] Bachman [sic] (Guys, it’s “Michele Bachmann”)
 • Ron Paul
 • Newt Gingrich
 • Rick Perry
 • John [sic] Huntsman (Again, spell-check: It’s “Jon”)
 • Other (write in)

Their chosen issues are just a titch terrifying. And putting instructions in all caps makes me think you’re screaming at me.

Wait… this is the Tea Party.

Anyhow, here’s their chosen issues. My comments are in bold and bracketed:

CHECK EVERY ISSUE YOU THINK SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE TEA PARTY VOTER GUIDE. YOU CAN CHECK AS MANY AS YOU’D LIKE. WE’LL SEND YOU THE GUIDE JUST BEFORE THE IOWA CAUCUSES.

Balanced budget amendment [You know those wars you are all so fond of? Couldn’t and wouldn’t happen with this.]

Balance budget by reducing spending to a level equal to our tax revenues [We’d be boned. You know who did that, by the way? A Democrat. President Bill Clinton balanced the budget.]

Reduce spending by elimination of waste, fraud and abuse in the Federal Government.

Cut taxes. [Because that will totally work, considering the Bush tax cuts put us in the black. Wait…]

Enact the fair tax. [Cool. So GE is gonna pay taxes? Oh, not that kind of fair tax…]

Enact a consumption tax, IE a national sales tax. [I think you’re looking for “i.e.” - “IE” is the shitty browser most of you likely use.]

Repeal the 16th Amendment (the income tax amendment) [And fund government how? Magic fairy dust?]

Repeal Obamacare [You mean The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act?]

Require any Supreme Court Justice to be prolife [Unbiased, independent judiciary says what?]

Abolish the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. [Um, no. You guys can’t get rid of a circuit because they made you sad and angry in your face.]

Abolish the Judgeships of activist judges [Hey, that’ll totally guarantee an independent judiciary. That’s not like a dictatorship at all </sarcasm>. Besides, you can’t just abolish their judgeship because reasons.]

Oppose Federal Tort Reform and protect the 7th Amendment (Civil Jury Trials)

Overturn Roe V. Wade

Increase Defense spending to at least the levels in years of the Bush administration. [And yet, you want to cut taxes and get rid of the income tax altogether. Oh, and defense spending under Obama increased. So that would be a decrease. See the chart below. True facts, y’all]

Withdraw from Afghanistan [Hooray rationality!]

Surge troops in Afghanistan so that the Taliban is defeated. [And there it goes. Ask Russia and Britain how the whole Afghanistan thing went.]

Start all foreign aid at zero. [Even Israel?]

Eliminate foreign aid. [Foreign aid = very tiny portion of our budget. Particularly against defense spending. Chart time!]

[Look! You can barely see the green bar!]

Stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. [Probably with magic fairy dust. Because that seems to be the only way to guarantee it. It’s not like Obama just sanctioned the hell out of Iran or anything…]

Work for regime change in Iran through covert action. [It’s not covert now </sarcasm>]

Impose trade sanctions on China [You know that’s where all the shit in Wal-Mart comes from, right?]

Support the Death Penalty [They support it so hard it becomes a proper noun.]

Oppose and defeat the “Internet free speech kill switch.” [Even a broken clock is right twice a day.]

Abolish the EPA [But for the other 1,438 minutes in the day, that broken clock is wrong. Who needs clean air anyhow? Smog builds character.]

Abolish the Department of Education [Book learnin’ is for socialists.]

Abolish the Department of Energy [Who needs safe energy development? Coal mine accidents = job openings, right? </sarcasm>]

Repeal NAFTA and other free trade agreements. [I could deal…]

Increase Free trade agreements. [And there y’all go again with the whole irrationality thing…]

Reinstate Don’t ask Don’t Tell [Why? Because gay soldiers are fighting the War on Christmas, that’s why.]

Leave the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell intact. [You’re just bullshitting me now.]

Work to repeal Gun Control laws and protect the Second Amendment against state restrictions. [Hint: Gun rights expanded under Obama. Guns in federal parks, gun bans struck down in several cities, assault rifle ban NOT reinstated as Obama said it would be, etc. Plus, we just bought a record amount of guns as Christmas gifts this year. I’m going to quit joking about the War on Christmas now.]

Secure the Border [Oh, boy. This one’s always, um, entertaining.]

Have selective removal of illegal aliens [By what? Lottery? Church attendance?]

Remove all illegal aliens. [Because that’s not prohibitively expensive, especially after we get rid of taxes.]

Abolish birthright citizenship. [It’s not like it’s in the US Constitution or anything. Because it is. For supposed strict constitutionalists, you all sure like to dick with the US Constitution.]

Repeal Dodd-Frank [Regulations caused the financial crisis, right?]

Repeal Sarbanes Oxley [This was an act to increase corporate accountability in the wake of Enron and other scandals. Essentially, this means CEOs can be held responsible for fraud or otherwise cooked books. Sounds terrible.]

Repeal oppressive business regulations. [What else is left? The minimum wage? Oh, right… Remember, if things they don’t like aren’t repealed, Tea Party Nation believes businesses should stop hiring in protest. Really.]

If you’d like to submit your vote, it’s still open. I encourage you to do so.

Last night, Troy Davis was executed in Georgia for the murder of an off duty police officer.

In 1989 Davis shot and killed an off duty police officer, Mark McPhail. He was convicted of capital murder in 1991 and spent the last 20 years on death row. His cause was taken up by liberal celebrities (a pretty good indicator that the jury got it right) as well as the usual suspects… Benjamin Jealous of the NAACP tweeted, “In death, Troy Davis will live on as a reminder of a broken justice system that kills an innocent man while a murderer walks free.”

A broken system? Only a far left activist can get paid to make such idiotic statements.

Judson Phillips, head of Tea Party Nation, on the execution lynching of Troy Davis. This man has claimed to be a former prosecutor, which sends chills up my spine when he writes liberals championing Davis’ cause means the jury got it right. It doesn’t matter that members of the jury who convicted Davis said if they knew what they know now, they would have voted for acquittal.

There’s a few people in the comments disagreeing with him, and for their dissent, they’re roundly condemned as “closet leftists” and the like.

Phillips claims to be pro-life all over the site. Pro-life my ass. All he does in the rest of the post is whine about how much it costs the state to kill someone and how long it takes. Phillips suggests speeding it up, writing, “Perhaps the question we should be asking is why does it take twenty years and an untold amount of taxpayer money for justice to be delivered?”

No. We should be asking how this happened in America and how we’re one of the last industrialized countries with capital punishment. We will pay billions in taxpayer dollars to kill someone (more expensive than life imprisonment) but GOD FORBID we suggest spending one cent to take care of others in any way.

As an ex-prosecutor, Phillips should know the dangers of eyewitness evidence instead of simply dismissing it. Further, he knows that the appeals process is constitutionally upheld. He’s simply callous.

Conservatives attack federal ‘penis study’ approved under Bush administration

Judson Phillips at Tea Party Nation has been on this all day. The comments are basically summarized by this comment

I’ve been espousing this for over five years; STOP PAYING YOUR TAXES. I espouse other mechanisms as well, which include armed revolt; armed with your birth certificate and a handgun, 3 million strong inside the D.C. Beltway which would be used as a parking-lot. Shut the city down, overwhelm the D.C. Police and wait for the national guard with “flowers for gun barrels”… There is a usurper in The House Of P.O.T.U.S. who does not have a real birth certificate and is using a dead-man’s S.S.A.N. He IS a muslim and he HAS run head-long up against the U.S. Constitution in every executive action he has taken. The marxists like to say that people, like me who espouse the truth, are KOOKS! Meanwhile, those Americans who WILL NOT accept the truth are like the subjects in the story, ‘THE KING HAS NEW CLOTHES’, (better known as, The King Has No Clothes!). Those Americans who cannot muster the courage to revolt, on behalf of their children’s children have doomed their offspring to a life of ENSLAVEMENT under the boot heel of MARXISM! I shall wear the mantle of kook and fight. How many of you out there have the balls to stand with me?

And yes, they cite Fox News, which left out this piece of info:

The research, titled “The Association between Penis Size and Sexual Health among Men Who Have Sex with Men,” began in 2006 and surveyed 1,065 gay men.

The point here? There is nothing that these folks will not go batshit over. Nothing. Can we just give them Kansas or something?

What if Obama gave a depression and we decided not to participate?

That is not a silly slogan or a stupid idea. It is not mindless mumbo jumbo. It is a serious proposal…Most Americans survived the First Great Depression. Some Americans actually prospered during the First Great Depression. Some Americans are prospering during this Obama created Second Great Depression.

How do we opt out of the Second Great Depression? It is simple. Figure out something you really want to do and do it. Create your own job. Create your own wealth…The government is not going to pull us out of this Second Great Depression. The government cannot. All the government can do is create conditions that are either favorable or unfavorable for economic growth…We create wealth by creating our own jobs. We must create the new middle class that is an entrepreneur class.

Most people ask how do you create your own job? Isn’t going into business risky? What do you do if you do not have a business background? All of those are excuses, not reasons for not doing this. How do you create the perfect job? It is simple, you find something you are passionate about and do it…We should all fight liberalism and one of the ways we can do this is to create our own job, full or part time.

Judson Phillips, solving the economic crisis on Tea Party Nation. There’s a significant problem here: You don’t make money at something just because it’s your passion. Plus, it takes money to start a business, and most people are hurting now. What bank is going to lend to someone who is unemployed? For someone who professes to be a believer in the free market, Phillips is sure confused about how supply and demand work. Further, he’s assuming a self-employed person can somehow avoid participating in or being affected by a terrible economy. Newsflash: You can’t.

In summary, oversimplification says what?

To call what the Obama regime does obscene would be an understatement. They ignore patriotism and tradition and glorify everything that is anti American. The Obama regime is about to announce that the last Lewis and Clark cargo ship for the Untied [sic] States Navy is going to be named after Cesar Chavez… Chavez did enlist in the Navy when he was 17. He served for two years and later described it as the most miserable years of his life.

Naming a ship after Chavez ignores the traditions of the United States Navy and is simply a politically correct gesture to honor a leftist who did not particularly love America.

Judson Phillips, writing for Tea Party Nation about how the US Navy could just as well name the cargo ship the “USS Karl Marx.”

Actually, the US Navy is upholding tradition. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune: “Over the past decade, NASSCO has been building dry cargo ships for use by the Navy’s Military Sealift Command. All of the ships are named after explorers or people who were pioneers in their fields. The names of the other 13 ships are: Lewis and Clark, Sacagawea, Alan Shepard, Richard E. Byrd, Robert E. Peary, Amelia Earhart, Carl Brashear, Wally Schirra, Matthew Perry, Charles Drew, Washington Chambers, William McLean, Medgar Evers.

The newest vessel in this line will be the first to be named after a Mexican-American.”

For those of you who don’t know, César Chávez co-founded the United Farm Workers union and was a pioneer of the labor movement.

Update, 9:00 p.m. MST:

quetzalcoatlhadanafro said: A few of my Mexi-American friends disagree with this on the basis that Chavez was a pacifist. It’s a step up from naming streets after him… but they may have a point (though I have to look into it more myself).

That’s a really good point. The ship is a cargo ship, staffed mainly by civilians. This gives it the designation of a USNS versus USS. Some good news about the ship: “The primary goal of the program is to provide effective fleet underway replenishment capability at the lowest life cycle cost. Built to commercial standards, T-AKEs [the technical name of the ship’s class] take advantage of industry best practices and can be cost-effectively maintained using commercial, off-the-shelf technology. T-AKEs have built-in environmental protections such as industry-leading ‘green’ waste-management facilities that decrease pollutants by 95 percent.”

And the not-so-great news: Even though the mission of these ships is to provide underway replenishment, the mission of the last three ships “will be to provide selective offload of cargo for resupply and sustainment of U.S. Marine Corps forces ashore.” So there’s a chance this new ship could be supporting combat operations overseas. I still feel it’s honoring a pioneer, but Chávez was a pacifist, so I’m not sure how much of an honor it really is - though the family will attend the dedication of the ship’s hull. Thanks for bringing up another perspective!

The Tea Party Platform, from Tea Party Nation

According to Judson Phillips, head of Tea Party Nation, this is the platform that the Tea Party should propose for 2012. My comments in bold.

Collectively [Collectivity makes Ayn Rand cry. Or kill an orphan] we should propose a Tea Party platform and let candidates endorse our platform.

What could we put in a Tea Party Platform [Other than “no gubmint]? Let me start with a few suggestions:

 1. A balanced budget. Both spending and borrowing are out of control. Americans must live within their means, so why can’t the government. [Who balanced the budget last? Right, Clinton. And he had to shut down the government to get the GOP to do it, calling the bluff of then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Also, the Bush tax cuts (yes, renewed under the Obama administration after a successful scare campaign by the GOP) and two wars have hit the deficit hard. Here’s the deficit increase below.]

Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely glad that OBL is no longer walking the soil of this earth as the next person. I have to wonder, why now? Is this part of Obama’s re-election plan? That he needs to improve his record of leadership and running this country. And what better way to do that then to take out enemy number one.

Bringing one terrorist to justice is not the makings of a great President, nor does it make him a hero. I am sure our Campaigner-in-Chief will ride out the glory in his attempt to be re-elected. Nothing has really changed in his lack of leadership to turn our nation around and be on a road to prosperity, instead of the road that we are on that very soon ends at the edge of a cliff.

An open letter from Tea Party Nation to Speaker Boehner

So, the Tea Party is cool with vets not getting benefits, troops going unpaid, etc. all because of an ideological pissing contest? The quote from Charlie Sheen is the icing on the cake. The idea that the response to this gridlock is “Duh, winning” sums up everything I think about the Tea Party and their reason for existence. They don’t give a shit about this country - only winning. The shutdown would cost money, you people get that, right? Here’s a letter from Judson Phillips of Tea Party Nation:

Dear Speaker Boehner,

As you know, I have been very critical of you in the last few weeks. I am sure you did not appreciate it when I said Charlie Sheen was making more sense than you. While I have been very unhappy with you, what I want is something I think you want and it is a phrase that Charlie Sheen has made famous. “Duh, winning.”

I want to win. I want the conservative Republicans to defeat the liberal Democrats because in this fiscal mess that we are in, if conservative Republicans defeat liberal Democrats, America wins.

Since it now looks like we are going into a government shutdown, this gives you the chance to step back and revisit the spending proposals and do something really worthwhile. Instead of cutting spending by $32 billion or $39 billion, lets do something radical. Let’s win by cutting spending by $300 billion. It’s a little short of the $1.65 trillion I want to see, but it is a good start.

How would this happen?

That is a good question. The liberal Democrats have acted like it is the end of the world, as we know it when we are talking about only $32 billion. How can we possibly win with $300 billion?

It is simple. A month ago, the Government Accounting Office, hundreds of billions of dollars could be saved by eliminating programs that have failed completely, are totally inefficient or are duplicative. Get the GAO report, and on Monday morning, tell the White House, this is your new budget proposal. $300 billion in cuts, all by eliminating waste and inefficiencies.

What will Obama, Pelosi and Reid do?

They will not like it, but how are they going to argue against cutting waste from the Federal Government? Americans of all stripes, conservative to liberal agree on one thing. They do not want their tax dollars wasted. Americans may disagree on how much spending there should be and what programs deserve funding and even what the tax rates should be, but I doubt you will find a single, sane American who is not offended at the idea of his or her tax dollars simply being wasted.

Over a month has passed since the GAO report came out. I have wondered why Republican Senators and Congressmen have not had fistfights over who got to introduce the legislation eliminating that spending.

So far, the Tea Party reaction to your tenure as Speaker has ranged from lukewarm to very displeased. In one stroke, you can change that. Move to eliminate $300 billion from this year’s budget through the elimination of waste, fraud and inefficiencies; you will have the Tea Party movement in the streets with signs reading “Boehner for President.”

This is a winning strategy. It helps America by dealing with our urgent debt and spending crisis and it helps conservative Republicans defeat liberal Democrats. It is a good plan and there is no reason not to go for it. Remember, “duh, winning!”

Judson Phillips, Founder of Tea Party Nation

Just a quick little side note from TPM:

Minutes after the crowd that was assembled at an Americans for Prosperity-backed Tea Party rally on Capitol Hill on Wednesday broke out into chants of “shut it down,” Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) claimed that the Tea Party doesn’t want the government to shut down and that Democrats would unfairly blame the movement if it did.

Nope, not unfairly, it appears. Cutting off your nose to spite your face isn’t winning. It’s losing, and losing big. Duh.

"In a moment, a leftist lunatic destroyed a half a dozen lives. Six were killed. Others were wounded. Gabrielle Giffords, who could probably be described as a rising star in the Democratic Party remains in critical condition, with a gunshot wound to the head.
The wounded were not even at the hospital before the left began its attack on the Tea Party movement.
The leftist sheriff of Pima County was one of the first to start in on the liberal attack. He said, ”When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry.” This is the same guy who announced he would refuse to enforce SB 1070 (The Arizona Immigration law) because it offended him.
McClatchy Newspapers repeated the standard liberal talking points. They said Conservatives were upset because she supported health care reform and during the debate her office was vandalized. Although no one was ever caught, the liberal media still feels it appropriate to blame this on a conservative.
For the Tea Party movement, we need to get ready because this week, the attack is going to intensify. Despite the fact that his friends from high school have described him as being quite liberal, the media is still going to be pushing the line that this is the fault of the Tea Party movement.
The hotheads on the left have been using Twitter, Facebook and other social media to spout off for the last 24 hours. Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas fired off a tweet saying, “Mission accomplished Sarah Palin.” Hotheads like him will fade. Next week we will see a more serious attack from those who are the masters at the dark arts of media and politics.
This attack has already started and you can see the liberal meme forming. They will say the tone and rhetoric from conservatives and the Tea Party is responsible for this crime. In Politico today, first an unnamed “Republican” (read RINO) Senator said, “tone matters.” Politico then quoted an unnamed Democratic operative who followed the same “tone matters” line, blaming the “overheated rhetoric” for the shooting, then saying Obama should “deftly pin this on the Tea Partiers,” just like Clinton placed the blame for the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.
In 1995, Clinton then tried to blame conservative talk radio, especially Rush Limbaugh, for the terrorist bombing. The tactic worked then, backing conservatives off and possibly helping to ensure a second Clinton term.
The line we will see for the next few weeks is going to be that rhetoric and tone of the message from the Tea Party is responsible for this attack. Let’s ignore the fact that this guy was not only nuts, but also a card carrying liberal. The hard left is going to try and silence the Tea Party movement by blaming us for this.
In a decent world, we could all take a moment to mourn for those killed by a liberal lunatic. Political civility is long since dead and the left will not let us do this.
So be it.
The left is coming and will hit us hard on this. We need to push back harder with the simple truth. The shooter was a liberal lunatic. Emphasis on both words.”
Click on the photo to enlarge
This just disgusts me. Even their own members are calling for them to dial it back, and Phillips can’t resist ratcheting it up to eleven and reminding them that we’re all at war now.

Emphasis on both words.

This just disgusts me. Even their own members are calling for them to dial it back, and Phillips can’t resist ratcheting it up to eleven and reminding them that we’re all at war now.
