Herman Cain’s campaign promises, starring Mike Tyson. This is pure magic:
"Hello. I’m Herman Cain, the man who’s shouting number nine in your TV… I’m leading in the Republican polls. Why? Because the Tea Party loves crazy more than they hate blacks. And I’m crazier than a shithouse rat!"
ThinkProgress brings us the latest 9/11 consumerism, topped off with a dollop of bigotry:
Believing that the upcoming 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 is best memorialized in crayon, Really Big Coloring Books, Inc. is publishing a new coloring book entitled “We Shall Never Forget 9/11: The Kids’ Book of Freedom." In offering kids the option of coloring the Twin Towers burning, mourning survivors, or the Navy SEALs shooting Osama Bin Laden, publisher Wayne Bell insists that "the doodles represent patriotism," a "simplistic, honest tool" to "help educate children on events on 9/11." But many Muslims describe it as, in a word, "disgusting."
Pointing out that Muslims are already dealing with an environment of increasing Islamophobia, Michigan Council on American Islamic Relations representative Dawud Walid noted that “nearly all of the mentions of Muslims in the book are accompanied by the words ‘terrorist’ or ‘extremist.’” Indeed, the page depicting a Navy SEAL aiming at bin Laden cowering behind is veiled wife reads “Children, the truth is, these terrorist acts were done by freedom-hating Islamic Muslim extremists. These crazy people hate the American way of life because we are FREE and our society is FREE.” Bell’s response? “The truth is the truth”
The truth is the truth, only when it isn’t… Let’s not even go into the depravity of a coloring book depicting the military operation which killed Bin Laden, complete with a bullet flying towards him.
This is the same company that began selling The Tea Party Coloring Book For Kids! roughly one year ago:
The controversy isn’t hurting the sales - the coloring book has apparently sold out its first run of 10,000 copies.
Tea Party Philosophy: It’s not government spending when I use it!
Tea Party freshman Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL), who has spent months lecturing President Obama and Democrats on fiscal responsibility, owes $117,437 in child support to his ex-wife and three children. Laura Walsh has asked a judge to suspend his driver’s license until he pays his child support. Despite loaning his own campaign $35,000— and paying himself back at least $14,200 for the loans — Walsh claims he failed to make the payments because he “had no money.”
Walsh has been a prominent voice in the debt ceiling showdown in recent weeks, making television appearances almost every day to denounce President Obama’s “reckless spending,” which he says has “bankrupted this country.”
"I won’t place one more dollar of debt upon the backs of my kids and grandkids unless we structurally reform the way this town spends money!" Walsh says in one video. But today, when confronted in a CNN interview about his failure to support his own children, Walsh not only refused to acknowledge his hypocrisy but insisted that being a deadbeat dad meant he understood the plight of average Americans.
Walsh also rejected the congressional health insurance plan for his family on principle, much to the chagrin of his current wife, Helene, who had a preexisting condition and needed surgery while the couple was uninsured. But Walsh apparently thinks he can have it both ways - claiming his own indebtedness and failure to care for his family’s needs allows him to understand average Americans, while railing against Washington for irresponsibly racking up deficits. As he put it in a recent interview, “Thank God congressmen like me are here!”
But at least he’s a consistent douchebag! No wonder he was okay with the US not paying its obligations - he’s familiar with that.
Sums it up nicely. (via The Economist)
Yep, despite evidence to the contrary, the Tea Party is insisting we do not raise the debt ceiling. This can be disastrous. Don’t believe me? Read the link above.
Essentially, the fringe hijacked the mainstream. And we may all pay for it.
Raise your hand if you’re shocked!
According to the poll, nearly one in four Americans sympathize with the Confederacy more than with the Union. That number grows to nearly four-in-ten among white Southerners. Among Tea Party members, 26 percent sympathize with the Confederacy more than the Union, and that number grows to 28 percent among Republicans.
The poll comes at a time when Republicans and Tea Partiers are rehashing the battles that both led to and came out of the Civil War. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) and others have come out in support of nullification laws. In both Texas and Tennessee, lawmakers have floated the possibility of secession. And across the country, Republicans have attempted to revoke the 14th Amendment guarantee of birthright citizenship. And, of course, there was Rep. Paul Broun’s (R-GA) reference to the “Great War of Yankee Aggression" on the House floor.
