War is old men protecting their property by sending young men – rich, old men protecting their property by sending middle-class and lower-class, young men off to die. It always has been. It’s all about owning things. All of this back-and-forth and debate implies that there are really choices in this country, that we really have choices, freedom of choice…

There is no real choice. They say, “freedom of choice.” You’re given an illusion of choice. Americans are meant to feel free by the exercise of meaningless choices. You know what the choices are in this country? “Paper or plastic.” “Aisle or window.” “Smoking or non-smoking.” Those are your real choices. You don’t get to choose anything.

These people down there, they’re not the counter-culture. They’re the culture. They don’t want free love. They want paid employment. They don’t hate capitalism. They hate what’s been done to it.

And they resent the Republican mantra that the market perfectly rewards the hard-working and punishes the lazy, and the poor are just jealous moochers who want a handout. Yeah, because if there’s one group of people who hate handouts, it’s Wall Street.

Bill Maher’s take on the Occupy Wall Street protesters. Well done.

If you’re a Christian and support killing your enemies and torture, you have to come up with a new name for yourself. Capping thine enemy is not exactly what Jesus would do — it’s what Suge Knight would do …Martin Luther King gets to call himself a Christian because he actually practiced loving his enemies, and Gandhi was so fucking Christian he was Hindu.
Bill Maher, pointing out that celebrating violence isn’t exactly what Jesus would do.
