With approval for entering another war at nine percent, the NY Times publishes an op-ed titled “Bomb Syria, Even if It Is Illegal” featuring a jaw-dropping call for Obama to literally dictate law as it suits him.

‘Obama and allied leaders should declare that international law has evolved and that they don’t need Security Council approval to intervene in Syria. This would be popular in many quarters, and I believe it’s the right thing to do.’

You certainly won’t find these same people making a moral case for lawbreaking when it comes to Snowden and Manning alerting us to government abuse, only in justifying it. These were the same arguments we heard for torture and indefinite detention, for drone strikes on U.S. citizens.

What’s happening in Syria is truly horrible. But there’s no reason to believe our involvement will mean less people will die. This isn’t a movie and we aren’t the saviors.

Political cartoonist Matt Bors, commenting on The New York Times' editorial, “Bomb Syria, Even if It Is Illegal”. For peace’s sake, let’s unleash bombs. It’s only moral.

"This isn’t a movie and we aren’t the saviors."

This is echoing the pre-war drumbeats of military interventions both past and present. If that doesn’t scare the hell out of you, this should.

So what? His wife and child are American citizens, and he was here legally. Isn’t that how public assistance ideally works? A temporary safety net, right? Relevant: “The state says both Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev — his brother and the other bombing suspect — received welfare benefits as children through their parents while the family lived in Massachusetts. Neither was receiving benefits at the time of the bombing.” Is that the story, the system operated as intended? Or is this non-news dressed up as news just so we hate the bomber (and by extension, his family) a teensy bit more? I mean, we’re so generous to people living in poverty in this country, and we have no homeless or hungry people ever, so obviously this is big important news — it’s in no way related to some sort of stigma associated with welfare, nope, no sir. /sarcasm

An ethnicity does not indicate any sort of defined motive or ties to any possible group or groups and law enforcement has yet to provide any confirmation of the current reporting. Chechen groups also have traditionally focused their ire on Russia rather than targeting the United States. Finally, given their lengthy residence it is difficult to discern what — if any — ties or sympathies the two brothers have to Chechen terrorist groups. The older of the brothers — Tamerlan Tsarnaev — has been in the United States since as early as 1992 as a refugee and in 2002 hoped to box for the United States at the Salt Lake City Olympics.

Second suspect in Boston Marathon bombings possibly heading to New York City

From Salon:

Norwich (CT) Bulletin: “Connecticut and Massachusetts state police are searching for a gray Honda CRV, with Massachusetts license plate 316-ES9, that might be occupied by Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, the 19-year-old suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings. Police said they believe Tsarnaev is headed to New York.”

NBC now reports that train in CT has not been allowed to leave for New York, and that a third accomplice is being searched for on board. Reporting remains fluid.

steadyrain asked: those saying that lady died twice are wrong in that she wasn't said to die in Boston. However, she was indeed on the news report as a witness. And yet she was earlier on the news for having died in Sandy Hook. The people got the facts wrong, but they still don't add up. Either way, an apparently dead woman was alive to tell the tale of her eyewitness account at Boston. There truly is something weird going on here.

No, there’s not.

For fuck’s sake…

Send me a link. A name. The news report. Anything. I don’t want another fucking photoshopped screen shot. I want a real-life video from a news agency affiliated with a major organization.

There’s nothing weird going on here except for the persistent refusal of people to accept that the Boston Marathon bombing was not a goddamn plot by the government.

Here’s my theory:

The bomber was Maggie Gyllenhaal, who also is responsible for Newtown, after she went ballistic on the set of that one Manbat movie she was in. The real Maggie Gyllenhaal has been replaced by a woman named Erika from Englishtown, N.J.

See? Here’s a side by side picture:

And it’s even from Boston.com, the website owned by The Boston Globe. THEY WERE TRYING TO TIP US OFF AND YOU PEOPLE DIDN’T SEE IT.

Now, prove me wrong.

Cheers,

Meg

Here’s the caption:

Whoa! Government is slipping up! This lady supposedly died in the elementary school shooting & apparently died again in the bombing at Boston. They have to be smarter than this, right? Nina Nieves Sosa

Yes, the government is smarter than this. You’re not.
Here’s the photo of one of the women killed in the bombing:

The other two killed were an eight-year-old boy and a Chinese national who graduated from Boston University, neither of whom is pictured above in the first photo.
Did you 33,000+ people even check this out at all? Of course, if they did, it’s all a mainstream media/government conspiracy, right? If you try to even say anything to these people, you’re just on their side, you just see what they see — which is nothing but bullshit as far as the eye can see.
You people got duped by either photoshop, or a news agency making a goddamn mistake by putting the wrong photo on-screen. Because that happens.
Assholes. Especially this guy that said “She deserved to die twice.”

Boston. Fucking horrible.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, “Well, I’ve had it with humanity.”

But I was wrong. I don’t know what’s going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here’s what I DO know. If it’s one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we’re lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they’re pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We’d have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, “The good outnumber you, and we always will.”

Comedian Patton Oswalt responding to today’s bombings in Boston

Indeed.
